Structure and function of spin-on filter

First, let’s understand what a filter does:        All air, fuel, fuel, and water flowing through the engine contain pollutants that can cause engine wear. The sources of these pollutants vary. Filters can effectively filter out these pollutants, thereby extending the service life of the engine system, reducing total operating costs and saving expenses.

So where does the pollutant come from? The answer is three sources!
       1. Spontaneous type-caused by normal wear and tear
       2. Inhalation type-enter the system from the outside
       3. Inherent—The system itself

Technical terms for the filter industry:
Filtration efficiency
       Filters can filter particulates in a certain size range in the liquid or gas required by the engine. The rate at which particulate matter is removed is called the filtration efficiency of the filter. The lower the filter's filtration efficiency, the more particulate matter remains inside the engine system and the greater the wear on the engine. The more efficient the filter, the easier it is to plug, and the shorter the filter's life.
      Ash Capacity & Service Cycle
       The total amount of pollutants that the filter can hold is the ash capacity. The ash holding capacity of the filter should be greater than the total amount of particulate matter generated within a certain time. This specific time is called the filter's service cycle.
      Distinction of filters: Filters are distinguished by the size of the particles they can filter. These particles are measured in microns. Microns are one thousandth of a millimeter or 0.0000394 inches.

filter paper:
       The filter paper of the filter is mainly used to filter out pollutants that will cause engine wear when the fluid passes through it. The filter paper is mainly composed of natural fibers or synthetic fibers. Each type of filter paper has its role and is selected according to the specific maintenance method.

Central tube:
       The central tube is mainly used for structural support of the filter. The center tube is usually made of metal, and some center tubes also use composite materials. End plates made of metal or composite materials are mainly used to increase strength.

Threaded cover:
        The threaded cover of the spin-on filter allows it to be mounted on the base. The thread is designed to fit.

Sealing ring & coil spring:
The seal ring provides a seal for each part of the filter; the coil spring keeps the filter element close to the seal ring, and the seal ring is located between the filter element and the thread cover.
