How many types of air conditioner filters are there? What’s the difference?

The car’s air-conditioning filter is directly related to whether the passengers in the car can breathe healthy air. Regular cleaning of the car’s air-conditioning filter is of great significance to the health of the car.

During the use of automobile air-conditioning system, many dust, moisture, bacteria and other dirt will accumulate in the air-conditioning system during air circulation. Over time, bacteria such as molds breed, which emit peculiar smells, and cause damage and allergic reactions to the human respiratory system and skin, which directly affect the health of the occupants, and the air conditioning system itself will also cause failures such as poor cooling effect and small air output.

The air-conditioning filter is designed to avoid the above phenomenon. It effectively filters the dust, pollen and bacteria in the air and prevents the internal pollution of the air-conditioning system. Car air-conditioning filters with activated carbon coating can also kill bacteria in the air and inhibit the regeneration of bacteria. However, as time goes by during the use of the air conditioning system, dust and bacteria will gradually accumulate on the air conditioning filter. After reaching a certain level, the air conditioning system will also experience the above-mentioned series of failures. Regular maintenance is required to maintain good air conditioning quality. Therefore, frequent cleaning and regular replacement of air-conditioning filters are necessary tasks.

There are several types of air conditioner filters, what is the difference between them?

The air-conditioning filters we usually see are divided into three categories, ordinary filter paper (non-woven) air-conditioning filters, activated carbon filters and HEPA air-conditioning filters.

1. Ordinary filter paper (non-woven) type air-conditioning filter element

Ordinary filter paper type air-conditioning filter element mainly refers to the filter element whose filter layer is made of ordinary filter paper or non-woven fabric. By folding the white filament non-woven fabric to form folds of a certain thickness, the air can be filtered. Since there are no other adsorption or filtering materials, only non-woven fabrics are used to simply filter the air, so this kind of filter element does not have a good filtering effect on harmful gases or PM2.5 particles. Most of the models are equipped with the original air-conditioning filter element at the factory of this type.

2. Activated carbon double-effect filter

Generally speaking, the activated carbon filter element is based on the fiber filter layer, adding an activated carbon layer to upgrade single-effect filtration to double-effect filtration. The fiber filter layer filters impurities such as dust and pollen in the air, and the activated carbon layer absorbs harmful gases such as toluene to achieve double-effect filtration.

HEPA multi-effect air-conditioning filter (GHL)

HEPA is the abbreviation of High Efficiency Particulate Air, which means “High Efficiency Particulate Air Filtration System”. The HEPA filter element has a very strong ability to filter particulate matter. It is the best of all filter element materials in terms of filtering PM2.5. The HEPA multi-effect air conditioner filter is based on the “activated carbon double-effect filter” with a medical-grade HEPA melt blown layer, which maximizes the filtration efficiency of the air conditioner filter without losing air flow technology. On this basis, an anti-mildew and antibacterial layer is specially added for the characteristics of air conditioning filters that are prone to mildew after long-term use. It has reached that the air conditioner filter can ensure that no bacteria will breed and produce peculiar smell under various use environments.

The filter positions of the Japanese and Korean models are basically behind the passenger’s glove box, and it is convenient to disassemble and assemble. The filter positions of American and European vehicles are different, and tools need to be cross/slotted screwdriver (refer to the example for specific models). When replacing the filter, pay attention to the new and old positions. The rectangular and cube filters are easy to install. . Observe the old filter, the dirty and dark side is the air inlet side, and the rough side of the new filter is the air inlet side (the side with the base net is air out). Be careful not to get close to the nose and mouth of the replaced old filter. It can be packed in plastic bags for disposal.
